High ISO

For one, higher ISO means you have to sacrifice dynamic range, now to me, this is more important.
Take a moment to consider this, if you wish to capture the gentle gradations of light, light textures so to speak, then you can only do so with a lower ISO. After all, photography is about painting with light.

Shooting concerts on Manual Lenses

The best bet for this however is the Lumix GH-1, though much more expensive. The low light and EVF should take care of all the low light and focusing issues but I doubt the kit lens is going to be a hit as at full zoom, the aperture is f/5.8. This clearly cannot handle the lighting situation on stage.
